Anxiety Disorders

Experiencing anxiety is a normal reaction to a stress and can be beneficial to us in various situations.  Anxiety can help keep us alert when presented with a dangerous situation.  Anxiety Disorders presents differently from the normal reaction to stress, and involves excessive fear and/or anxiety.  According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), anxiety disorders are the most common of mental disorders affecting nearly 30% of adults at some point in their lives (American Psychiatric Disorders, 2019).  The good news is that anxiety disorders are treatable and most seeking treatment lead normal and productive lives.

Examples of Anxiety Disorders:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • Panic Disorder

  • Phobias, Specific Phobia

  • Agoraphobia

  • Social Anxiety Disorder

  • Separation Anxiety Disorder

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
